The Woodruff Arts Center is home to the Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Symphony, High Museum of Art, and Atlanta College of Art. Other arts and culture venues include: The Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, Fernbank Science Center, and Imagine It! (Atlanta's Children's Museum). The High Museum of Art is the city's major fine/visual arts venue, with a significant permanent collection and an assortment of traveling exhibitions. The Atlanta Opera, is arguably the most important opera company in the southeastern United States.

Atlanta boasts a variety of museums on subjects ranging from history to fine arts, natural history, and even beverages. Nearby history museums and attractions include the Atlanta History Center; the Atlanta Cyclorama and Civil War Museum; the Carter Center and Presidential Library; historic house museum Rhodes Hall; and the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum.
Atlanta is home to the world's largest aquarium, the Georgia Aquarium, which features features over 100,000 specimens in tanks holding approximately eight million gallons of water. Another unique museum is the World of Coca-Cola featuring the history of the world famous soft drink brand and its well-known advertising.

Atlanta Sports Venues
The 21-acre Centennial Olympic Park (0.2 mi) regularly hosts concerts, street festivals and other cultural events. The Olympic Stadium, the site of the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the track and field events of the 1996 Olympics, has been reincarnated as Turner Field.
Atlanta is host to four different major league sports, all of whom play in stadiums less than 2 miles from the Quality Inn Downtown Atlanta. The Atlanta Falcons NFL football team plays at the Georgia Dome (0.4 mi); The Atlanta Hawks NBA basketball team, and the Atlanta Thrashers NHL hockey team play in the nearby Philips Arena (0.3 mi); The Atlanta Braves MLB baseball team (playing at Turner Field - 1.2 mi).

Atlanta can be full of surprises for outdoor adventurers. Innumerable hiking trails, exciting rock climbing, camping, trout fishing and great paddling are all within a short drive of the city. Many such outdoor activities are available within Atlanta's "perimeter" (the boundary created by Interstate 285, which encircles the city). Atlanta's location in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains is a perfect spot from which to explore the mountains of North Georgia and the more gentle landscape of Middle Georgia.
